DMW: 1,834 Filipino seafarers aboard 59 ships safely cross Strait of Hormuz

Over 1,800 Filipino seafarers aboard 59 vessels have safely crossed the Strait of Hormuz from April to May this year amid the Middle East conflict, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said on Tuesday.

In a Facebook post, the DMW said it continues to closely monitor vessels transiting the waterway to ensure the safety and welfare of Filipino seafarers.

“As of May 25, 2026, a total of 59 vessels carrying 1,834 Filipino crew members have crossed the Strait of Hormuz from April to May this year,” the agency said.

“These include oil tankers, cargo ships, container vessels, and other commercial vessels operating within the region,” it added.

The DMW added that it is “closely tracking 17 more vessels that may attempt to cross the Strait of Hormuz” on Tuesday, May 25, with nearly 300 Filipino seafarers onboard.

It assured that its coordination with shipping companies, licensed manning agencies, and relevant government agencies is ongoing for “real-time updates, ongoing communication, and immediate response when necessary.”

“The Department assures that assistance and support services are readily available for affected seafarers and their families. At the same time, continuous monitoring is undertaken to safeguard the welfare, safety, and security of all overseas Filipino maritime workers,” the DMW added. — JMA, GMA News
