PH Embassy in Singapore marks Independence Week 2026, celebrates Pinoy cuisine

The Philippine Embassy in Singapore commemorated the 128th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence with a week-long celebration, including the launch of a food guide for key Filipino culinary spots in the city-state.

The festivities opened with a flag-raising ceremony on June 8 at the embassy's newly reconstructed chancery, bringing together members of the Filipino community, embassy personnel, and representatives from various organizations.

The event also recognized the 31st anniversary of Migrant Workers Day on June 7 in honor of the contributions of overseas Filipino workers.

In his Migrant Workers Day message over the weekend, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. lauded the hardworking overseas Filipino workers as the government vows to extend continued assistance and provide protection for them in the Philippines and abroad.

The embassy's celebration was also highlighted by the launch of "Flavors of Diplomacy: The Philippine Food Guide in the Lion City."

The digital publication "celebrates the growing presence of Filipino cuisine in Singapore, spotlighting restaurants, cafés, bakeries, and culinary entrepreneurs," the embassy said.

The embassy also launched a Philippine food interactive map, which allows the public to explore Filipino establishments across Singapore.

During the event, participants viewed a video message from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Meanwhile, messages from Foreign Affairs Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro, Trade and Industry Secretary Maria Cristina Roque, and Overseas Workers Welfare Administrator Patricia Caunan were read by embassy officials and representatives.

In his speech, Philippine Ambassador to Singapore Medardo Macaraig spoke about the significance of the Philippines' journey towards independence and nationhood. He also recognized the contributions of overseas Filipinos in strengthening the Philippines' relations with other countries. — VDV, GMA News
