LOOK: UAE sends humanitarian aid to Mindanao earthquake victims
The government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has sent humanitarian aid to victims of the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck off Maasim, Sarangani on June 8.
In a post featured on GMA Pinoy TV, the UAE distributed essential grocery packs and clean drinking water to displaced families in quake-hit areas in Mindanao.
“This effort is a beautiful display of malasakit (compassion), powered by the strong ties between the UAE and the Philippines, alongside the incredible spirit of our Global Pinoys in Dubai,” the post read.
Organizers said the initiative began just days after the earthquake and remains ongoing as of writing.
The relief operation is being led by UAE Ambassador Mohamed Al Qattam Alzaabi, the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Manila, the UAE Aid Team, Impact Makers Dubai, and the Emirates News Agency.
As early as June 11, the UAE Embassy in Manila said on its Facebook page that it was committed to supporting earthquake victims by dispatching urgent aid to the Philippines.
In Maasim, the local government unit on Thursday shared details of the UAE Embassy’s two-day relief mission, which reached around 6,000 beneficiaries.
“Sa mga hinabang nga naabot diri, gipasalamatan nato ang taga-UAE nga nagtabang. Pasalamat kami nga gitabangan, ug ang atong Ginoo nga nagprotekta nato,” Mayor Zyrex Pacquiao said in a social media post.
(For all the blessings we have received here, we are grateful to the people of the UAE for helping us. We are thankful for the assistance we received, and we thank the Lord for protecting us.)—MCG, GMA News
