No Filipinos killed in Bangkok pub fire —DFA
There were no Filipinos among those killed in the explosive fire inside a pub in Bangkok, Thailand on Sunday, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said.
“According to the Philippine Embassy in Bangkok, no Filipinos were among the 27 reported fatalities. The Embassy continues to monitor the situation closely,” said DFA spokesperson Analyn Ratonel in a message to GMA News Online on Monday.
At least 63 people were injured in the fire, including 22 in critical condition, a Reuters report said.
Citing testimonies from survivors, Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said a sudden fire quickly filled the pub with thick smoke. Trapped without any fire escapes, many patrons rushed toward the back of the venue near the restrooms.
According to the Reuters report, several victims were seen lying face down on the floor near the pub's restrooms as rescuers arrived. — BM, GMA News
