Search continues for missing Fil-Am nurse in Southern California

The search for a missing Filipina-American nurse continues almost two weeks into her disappearance, according to the Oceanside Police Department in Oceanside, California on Wednesday.

Authorities said that Angelica Brophy, 44 and an emergency room nurse at Kaiser Permanente in San Marcos, California, was reported missing on July 6 around 9:30 p.m. Her last known location was Harrah’s Resort in Valley Center on the same day at approximately 3:30 p.m.

“Subsequently, on July 9th, Ms. Brophy’s vehicle was found in the parking lot of Palomar Mountain State Park. However, Ms. Brophy was not with her vehicle,” Oceanside Police Department Chief of Police Taurino Valdovinos said in a press briefing on July 15.

The police reported that search and rescue operations were conducted for Brophy at various times from July 9 to July 11, but they were unable to locate her.

On July 12 and July 13, authorities initiated a search in a nearby pond, but found nothing. The police said that search operations resumed the following day, on July 14.

“At this time, we have no evidence of foul play. However, we are treating this case as an open investigation until Ms. Brophy is located,” Valdovinos said.

According to foreign media reports, Brophy's friends and family held a vigil of hope on July 15 as the search for her continues.

“Angelica, if there is anyway you can see this please know we love you beyond words,” her brother Martin Fabregas said, according to the New York Post. “We are searching for you every single day. We are not giving up and we will never stop looking until you are home where you belong.”
