234 Filipinos repatriated from Middle East on New Year's Day

A total of 234 Filipinos arrived on a chartered flight from the Middle East on New Year's Day following a successful repatriation mission from the United Arab Emirates and the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The repatriates included three abandoned minors, several detainees who had been imprisoned in Dubai, and wards and their minor children from the shelters of the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi and Consulate General in Dubai.

They arrived on the 60th chartered flight arranged by the Department of Foreign Affairs for overseas Filipino workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

More than 320,000 Filipinos Overseas have been repatriated since the COVID-19 pandemic broke out.

The repatriation mission capped the four-day official visit to Manama led by Presidential Assistant on Foreign Affairs Robert E.A. Borje as President Rodrigo Duterte’s special envoy to the Kingdom of Bahrain. -NB, GMA News
