Fil-Am Jon Jon Briones talks about musical theater, career inspiration

From being a choir member at Sto. Domingo Church, to Broadway and Hollywood, Jon Jon Briones' voice and acting prowess have taken him places both figurative and literal.

In this feature video by GMA's Pinoy TV, Briones, who gained US citizenship in 2010, recalled his first big break in local theater following his stint in the 1989 London production of Miss Saigon.

His epic performance as the Engineer in the 2014 West End revival of the musical earned him a nomination for the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Musical.

Briones' most recent iconic performance was that of Modesto "Pete" Cunan, father of killer Andrew Cunan, portrayed by Fil-Am actor Darren Criss, on The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.

While Criss earned an Emmy for his chilling performance, Briones was critically acclaimed for his portrayal of the single-minded father whose warped vision of the American dream helped shape the roughness of Andrew's character.
