BAWAL ANG PASAWAY KAY MARENG WINNIE: ONE-ON-ONE KAY RETIRED SENIOR ASSOCIATE JUSTICE ANTONIO CARPIO

MARTES, 12 NOVEMBER, 7:15 PM SA GMA NEWS TV

“Can you tell a joke?” Mareng Winnie asks the recently retired Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio, to which he quips, “Sometimes.” When Mareng Winnie pushes further, “Can you tell a joke now?” Carpio grins and admits, “I can’t.” The mild mannered, seemingly “boring (according to Mareng Winnie )” Carpio bade farewell to the Supreme Court after 18 years of experience and memories plus a fair share of secrets and controversies. With the SC now behind him, will Carpio finally tell all?

Carpio is known for being a staunch defender of the Philippines' claim to the West Philippine Sea. He decided against many controversial cases including the quo warranto case against former Supreme Court Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno, the cases against Justice Secretary Leila de Lima, and even the dismissal of the plunder case against the president that appointed him, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. In his storied career, he was shortlisted to be the next Chief Justice but he never made it. "I gave up promotions because of what I did...and I appreciate and feel comfort about people's appreciation now," says Carpio.

This Tuesday, it’s Carpio’s turn to take the stand as Mareng Winnie grills him about the ins and outs of the Supreme Court, his decisions, his personal life and his future plans. Watch the interview on Bawal ang Pasaway kay Mareng Winnie, Tuesday, 7:15pm on GMA News TV.

Boring.

I gave up promotions because of what I did.., and I appreciate and feel comfort about people's appreciation now." Dagdag pa niya, "Even against my personal interest, I did the right decision."
