BORN TO BE WILD presents

“The Mal of Mindanao” and “Hammerhead Search”

Part 1 on Wednesday, March 6

Summer starts this March as Born to be Wild kicks off the season with two exciting wildlife stories.

Doc Ferds returns to Malapascua Island in Cebu to attempt to document the critically endangered hammerhead sharks.  Studies show that there are only four sites in the Philippines were these sharks have been recorded—Bohol, Cagayan de Oro, Surigao and Malapascua, Cebu.  Many divers include the hammerhead sightings in their bucket list because it is difficult to find.  There are also stories of hammerhead sharks following divers underwater.  This Wednesday, Doc Ferds Recio and a team of diving experts begin their attempt to catch the hammerhead on camera.

For ten days, Doc Nielsen and his team live inside the jungle in search for an animal identified as “Mal” by the native tribes.  The Mal, according to experts, are more popularly known to live in the forests of the Visayas. But with the help of indigenous residents, it was discovered that the Mal also thrives in Mindanao.

The Mal, according to indigents, possesses a distinct smell. And whenever the scent becomes noticeable, surely, there is a Mal nearby.  Get to know the Mal and the adventures of Doc Nielsen in search of this fascinating creature.
