Born to be Wild presents “OCEAN WORLD”

This week on OCEAN WORLD, taking center stage is a species that has managed to master the waves and conquer the sea, without fins, without gills, nor the ability to live underwater: humans.

Go on an epic journey to the West Philippine Sea where Doc Ferds and his team document the struggles of people who depend on the ocean to survive. Doc Ferds joins a twenty-man fishing team travelling to Bajo de Masinloc to catch the round scad locally known as “galunggong”. There was a time when the galunggong was one of the cheapest fish in the market, but experts say this species is now in decline and is no longer an affordable food source for many.

From the ocean to the table—seafood items travel a long way before these can reach our tables. Doc Nielsen visits the largest fish port in the Philippines and talks to the people who have witnessed the highs and lows of the seafood industry for the past thirty years.

Special series OCEAN WORLD continues on Born to be Wild, Sunday morning after AHA!
