Episode on January 26, 2008 Saturday, 11:30 p.m. This Saturday night, Sine Totoo features the very first award-winning documentary of now multi-awarded i-Witness partners Kara David and executive producer Lloyd Navera. “Selda Inosente" tells the heart-breaking story of Filipina detainees who become mothers – within prison walls.
Kara meets Aida seven days after she gave birth to a baby boy in jail. Her husband Feliciano is also detained with her for charges of drug-dealing. While interviewing them, Kara is given an unexpected task – Feliciano asks her to deliver a letter to his uncle, with a request to adopt their newborn. What will happen to this baby is one of the many unforgettable scenes in “Selda." Inside an overcrowded cell in the Manila City Jail, Kara finds one-year old Pachuchay. The small prison with 70 prisoners including her mother, has been her world since birth. Pachuchay has never known freedom or a life outside the four walls of their cell. With Sine Totoo host Howie Severino, Kara and Lloyd discuss the dilemma that these mothers – as well as the government and organizations that handle them – must face: is it more important to give a child his right to live in freedom, or his right to be loved and cared for by his birth mother? Do not miss “Selda Inosente" – winner of the 2003 ABU CASBAA UNICEF Child Rights Award and finalist at the 2004 US International Film and Video Festival – this Saturday night only on Sine Totoo.
