Jessica Soho on being a journalist in the age of misinformation: 'Commit to the truth'

Jessica Soho remains steadfast in her role as a journalist in the age of misinformation.

Despite the spread of fake news, especially on social media, the Philippines' most awarded journalist said now is the best time to be a journalist.

She encouraged journalists to rise to the occasion and perform their duties as truth-tellers as best as they can.

"Ang challenge sa mga journalist ngayon, magkuwento nang mahusay para mas paniwalaan 'yung ating trabaho kesa dun sa mga nagpapalaganap ng maling impormasyon," she said.

"Commit to the truth. Hindi kasi tamang isuko ang katotohanan, kailangan itong ipaglaban lalo na't marami pa tayong dapat bigyan ng liwanag sa ating bayan," she added.

Soho also described what Tatak Public Affairs means to her: to help others aside from telling their stories to the audience.

"Para kaming nginingitian ng langit tuwing nabubuo namin yung isang pamilya na nawalay sa isa't isa," she said about her "Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho" team.

She also shared her learnings from covering the war in Afghanistan and nearly getting caught in a landmine explosion.

"Bilang reporter sinasabi ko sa sarili ko na dapat matapang ako. Kailangan matapos 'yung coverage at buhay kayo at walang mangyayaring masama sa inyo para makapagbalita kayo," she said.

Tatak Public Affairs is anchored on three values: tapang (courage), talino (intellect), and totoo (truth).
