FROM HOMELESS TO HOPEFUL: GEORGE’S STORY OF RESILIENCE ON I-LISTEN
This Christmas, I-Listen shares a story that reminds us of the true meaning of hope, compassion, and second chances.
The latest episode features George, a former homeless man whose journey from the streets of Manila to a life of dignity and purpose reflects the quiet miracles that can happen when people choose not to give up.

Originally from Borongan, Eastern Samar, George came to Manila after college, believing that hard work would open doors to opportunity. Instead, when jobs were hard to find and his savings ran out, he found himself sleeping under bridges and along the baywalk—surviving on feeding programs and carrying his diploma and résumé wherever he went, clinging to hope even in his darkest nights.
Through years of hardship, George never lost faith. He collected recyclables to earn a living, saved patiently, and volunteered with charitable organizations, holding on to the belief that life on the streets was not where his story would end. What he longed for was not just food or shelter, but dignity—and a chance to start again.

That chance came through Kalinga, an organization that helped George rebuild his life. Today, he is a regular employee at a parochial school, earning an honest living and celebrating a future he once only prayed for.

As we celebrate Christmas—a season of giving, listening, and believing—George’s story reminds us that behind every person on the street is a life filled with dreams. Sometimes, all it takes is compassion, opportunity, and the courage to keep going for a life to be transformed.
