Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Hon. Dinky Soliman, Media personalities Kara David and Howie Severino, ace comedian Michael V., world-class chorale group Philippine Madrigal Singers, ace cagers Marc Jean Pingris Jr. and Gary David of Team Gilas Pilipinas and champion bowler Paeng Nepomuceno are the recipients of Eton’s 3rd Hope Awards, on October 19 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC).

Given on the United Nations (UN) Day Celebration and National Children’s Month, Eton International School highlights the children’s role models or heroes in various sectors from public governance, media, entertainment, sports and arts and culture.

This year’s awardees were chosen by the students who made their nominations last September. Essentially, nominees were judged based on their outstanding achievement in their fields of endeavor and excellence in their contributions to the cause of humanity while promoting positive values and serve as role models to the youth.

Soliman for her leadership in social welfare and development, Kara David for her exemplary dedication in broacast journalism; Howie Severino for his dedication in news and public affairs; Michael V. for his excellence in entertainment TV; Philippine Madrigal Singers for their inspiring advocacy on promoting PH arts and culture; Marc Jean Pingris Jr. and Gary David of Team Gilas Pilipinas for their stellar accomplishment in Philippine basketball; and Rafael “Paeng” Nepomuceno for his perseverance, excellence and sportsmanship in bowling.

Eton International School President Jacqueline Marzan-Tolentino remarked that “our students try to look for heroes they can emulate and cite inspiration from, especially as they go through this dynamic and challenging life.”

Tolentino also emphasized that children have a vital role in nation-building. As stressed in Section 13, Article II (Declaration of Principles and State Policies) of the Philippine Constitution, we shall inculcate in them, the youth, patriotism and nationalism. This annual awards aim to recognize the role of heroes—the Philippines’ impeccable innovators and movers, play in molding their physical, moral, spiritual, intellectual, and social well-being.
