"Trabaho lang po!": dokumentaryo ni Sandra Aguinaldo sa 'I-Witness'

What kind of work would you stay away from? Is it the kind of job that would require you to get dirty? Or the sort that would expose you to unbearable stench?
Last week, the Iglesia ni Kristo organized a charity walk at the Quirino Grandstand. The event had a record-breaking number of attendees of more than half a million... more than half a million people serviced by only a hundred portalets. After the charity walk came Rolly Geronimo, one of the portalet cleaners.
Armed with a hose, he bravely opened each portalet to vacuum out human waste. The stench was overpowering especially after a seemingly endless queue of people used these portable toilets. Rolly has seen a lot of filth in this job but still considers it a step-up from his previous work as a garbage collector. With this job, he is able to pay for the education of his child in Bicol.
Meanwhile in Pandi, Bulacan, Alejandro Ang has been collecting worms in the murky river for thirty years. Worms sell for fifty pesos per container in pet shops. He says he is used to this job even if the water he wades in is polluted by waste from nearby hog farms, fish ponds, and houses.
This Saturday on I-Witness, join Sandra Aguinaldo as she immerses herself in the dirty, the smelly and the hair-raising on her road to discovering dignity of labor.

Matapos ang charity walk, dumating si Rolly Geronimo—isa sa mga magigiting na taong tagalinis ng mga portalet na ito. Bitbit ang vacuum, buong tapang niyang bubuksan isa-isa ang mga portalet at hihigupin ang mga duming iniwan ng mga gumamit nito. Kakaiba ang amoy ng mga portalet lalo pa’t walang patid ang pila ng mga gumamit nito. Sari-sari man daw ang nakikita niya sa trabahong ito, para kay Rolly, isa na itong pag-angat mula sa pagiging isang basurero. Sa katunayan, napag-aaral niya ang isang anak sa Bicol dahil sa trabahong ito.
Sa Pandi, Bulacan naman, tatlumpung taon nang lumulusong si Alejandro Ang sa ilog na puro burak para mangolekta ng mga bulate. Singkuwenta pesos kada tabo ang bentahan ng mga bulate sa mga pet shop. Nakasanayan na raw niya ang pangangalakal na ito kahit na nakadidiring isipin na ang tubig na dumadaloy sa ilog na pinagkukunan niya ay katas ng mga babuyan, fish pond at mga bahay sa paligid nito.
Ngayong Sabado sa I-Witness, samahan si Sandra Aguinaldo sa kaniyang pagsuong sa marurumi, nakaririmarim at mababaho tungo sa pagtuklas sa dangal ng trabaho.
