"Ang Simbahan ng San Rafael": An 'I-Witness' documentary by Jay Taruc

“ANG SIMBAHAN NG SAN RAFAEL”
Dokumentaryo ni Jay Taruc
Airing date: May 17, 2014

The church is believed not only to be a spiritual haven for the faithful but also as a refuge for restless souls.

In a quaint town of San Rafael, Bulacan, locals are in awe of their church because of its remarkable history.

The San Juan De Dios Church, otherwise known as San Rafael Church stood as a silent witness to the gruesome massacre of some 800 Bulaceños in 1896.

It is also believed that some actual events that occurred in the church served as the inspiration of our National Hero, Jose Rizal, for his book Noli Me Tangere.  In fact, one room serves as the museum to house an artifact preserved since the 1800s. That artifact is a bloodstain in the shape of a hand imprinted on the wall believed to belong to the real “Crispin”.

Some people believe the restless souls belong to those of “Crispin” and “Basilio”, innocent civilians and members of slaughtered Katipuneros.

There are reported sightings of ghost children playing, a kneeling nun, and other entities who wander the grounds of the church and the adjacent convent.

This is the fourth documentary in I-Witness' “lockdown” series where Jay Taruc and his team, together with some experts, investigate reported hauntings to shed light on supernatural mysteries.
