"Airborne": An 'I-Witness' documentary by Kara David

People say paratroopers have a double death wish - they’re soldiers and they jump off planes. But for these brave men and women, it’s duty and love of country.
Paratroopers played an important role in the victory of the Americans and Filipinos in the Philippines during World War II. Around 2,000 men from the 503rd Parachute Regimental Combat Team took the dangerous plunge in enemy territory to recapture Corregidor. While the 11th Airborne Division helped prevent the massacre of prisoners of war by the Japanese in Los Baños, Laguna by participating in a coordinated raid.
Inspired by these heroic and selfless acts, young Filipino men and women in the military have bonded to follow the steps of their heroes. They call themselves Airborne, and proudly so.
To belong in this elite group in the Philippine Air Force (PAF), a soldier has to undergo a rigorous training on top of the standard cadet training of the Armed Forces. A combination of intensive ground exercises and heart-stopping sky jumps make up this special training.
Kara David documents these activities and meets some of the brave soldiers who risk life and limb to belong in this elite force. She also immerses with the Special Operations Wing of the PAF and joins them in their intense ground training in hopes of getting clearance to join the paratroopers in their proficiency jump.

Mahalaga ang papel na ginampanan ng mga paratrooper sa pagkapanalo ng mga Amerikano at Pilipino dito sa Pilipinas noong World War II. Nasa 2,000 sundalo mula sa 503rd Parachute Regimental Combat Team ang tumalon sa gitna ng teritoryo ng kalaban para muling masakop ang Corregidor. Ang 11th Airborne Division naman ang isa sa mga tumulong na mapigilan ang pagmasaker sa prisoners of war ng mga Hapon sa Los Baños, Laguna.

Dadaanan nila ang delikadong ground training at ang makapigil hiningang talon mula sa himpapawid suot ang maliliit na parachute.
