Warm greetings and infectious smiles usually welcome guests in a hotel in Davao City. Their trainees are comprised of people with Down Syndrome.
Green Window Dormitel, in association with the Down Syndrome Association of the Philippines – Davao Chapter, has been training persons with Down Syndrome since October last year. From folding comforters to changing bed sheets, all trainees are taught the ins and outs of the job for a couple of months.
Sandra Aguinaldo meets Aileen, Cresten, and other trainees with Down Syndrome who, despite their condition, has never been a burden to their colleagues. Some of them are training to become office clerks. And just like everyone else, they are hoping they’d get the chance to have decent jobs.
According to experts, Down Syndrome can be considered an intellectual disability. But the hotel manager at Green Window Dormitel firmly believes that his trainees are superior compared to their counterparts when it comes to diligence and being responsible.
“Labor of Love” tells a heartwarming story about hope and perseverance. Sandra Aguinaldo’s I-Witness documentary airs this Saturday, January on GMA 7 after Kapuso Movie Festival.
