I-WITNESS
PUGAD NG ANGEL
Host: Mav Gonzales
Airing: May 14, 2022

ENGLISH

There are more than 3,000 caves in the country, and more are yet to be discovered, assessed, surveyed and classified.

One such treasure is hidden from plain sight amidst a wooden area in Pangasinan. Only a handful know about this virgin cave.

The land where the cave is situated is owned by Tagay Family. Carlito, the patriarch, tried to open it to the public before but when the Bani LGU learned of its existence, they had it closed for further study and research for new species of plants and animals. They also started to map out the caverns in 2015 but had to stop because of the pandemic.

The cave is unofficially called “Angel Cave” and Mav Gonzales finds out why.

The Tagay family and the Bani LGU granted I-Witness to be the first to document the cave on national TV.

Mav tries her spelunking skills as she rappels the drops, swims in the crystal-clear pools, walks precariously on pointy rocks, all the while gazing in awe at the undisturbed beauty of the cave.

She also joins the team of cave mappers to explore its deeper recesses.
