Dump and fill. O mas kilala sa tawag na reclamation. Sinasabing nakatutulong ang reclamation projects para mapalakas ang ekonomiya ng bansa. Pero bakit mahigpit itong tinututulan ng ilang grupo?

 

Sa Coron, Palawan, isang reclamation project ang ipinahinto ngayong taon ng Philippine Reclamation Authority. Sabi ng PRA, hindi raw awtorisado ang proyekto na pinangunahan ng Palawan Provincial Government at mga kasosyong kumpanya.

 

 

Sa pagpunta ng I-Witness sa lugar, natuklasang maliban sa inabutang nakatiwangwang ang nasa 22 ektarya na reclaimed area, natuklasan din ang iba pang sanga-sangang problema rito.

 

 

Sa Manila Bay naman, dalawampu’t apat ang pinaplanong reklamasyon na sasakop sa nasa siyam na libong ektarya ng dagat. Kapalit nito, nanganganib na mapaalis ang tinatayang nasa 150,000 o higit pang maralitang residente sa Baseco Compound.

RECLAMATION NATION

Dump and fill, or better known as reclamation. It is said that reclamation helps boost the country's economy. But why do some groups strongly oppose these projects?

In Coron, Palawan, a reclamation project was stopped this year by the Philippine Reclamation Authority. The PRA said the project led by the Palawan Provincial Government and partner companies was not authorized.

When I-Witness visited the area, it was found out that the 22-hectare reclaimed area was abandoned, and other ramifications of problems were also discovered.

In Manila Bay, twenty-four reclamation projects are planned to cover nine thousand hectares of the sea. With this, estimated 150,000 poor residents in the Baseco Compound are at risk of being evicted.

Are these projects beneficial or risky?
