Apat na kuwento mula sa 'Batch 2020', susundan sa 'The Atom Araullo Specials'!

Marahil ang pagbubukas ng pasukan ngayong 2020 ang isa sa pinakamahirap at pinakanamumukod tangi sa ating kasaysayan.  Nang opisyal na binuksan ng Department of Education ang taon ng pag-aaral nitong Oktubre, idineklara nila ang kanilang pagwawagi laban sa COVID-19.  Ngunit nariyan pa rin ang isang malaking tanong:  gaano tayo kahanda para sa blended learning?

Sinundan ng The Atom Araullo Specials ang apat na kuwento na maglalahad ng hirap at pagpupursigi para lang makamtan ang edukasyon sa gitna ng pandemya.  Makikilala ni Atom si Charlie, estudyante ng grade 7 na nangongolekta ng alimasag para makaipon ng pera.  Umaasa si Charlie na sa kaniyang ipon, makakabili siya ng cellphone para sa kaniyang online classes.  Makikilala rin ni Atom si Pam, isang bagong National Teacher Broadcaster ng Department of Education.  Mag-isang itinataguyod ni Pam ang kaniyang tatlong anak, kaya isa ring hamon ang kaniyang bagong papel bilang teacher broadcaster kasabay ng pag-gabay niya sa pag-aaral ng kaniyang anak.

Aakyat din sa kabundundukan ng Rizal si Atom para naman makilala ang mga boluntaryo na nagtuturo sa mga batang hindi magabayan ng kanilang magulang na no-read, no-write.  Sa paggawa ng dokumentaryo, makakarating si Atom sa isa sa pinakaliblib na eskuwelahan sa General Nakar, Quezon.  Para sa mga estudyanteng namumuhay na walang signal at kuryente, paano naman mahahatid ang edukasyon sa kanila? 

Sa Pilipinas kung saan laging lamang ang may-kaya lalo na pagdating sa edukasyon, paano na ang mga guro at estudyante na hindi kasing-palad?  Ano ang kailangan nilang gawin para makapag-aral?  Samahan si Atom Araullo kilalanin ang 'Batch 2020'.

With at least 20 million students enrolled for the school year 2020-2021, this will be one of the most unique, challenging, and historic school openings in our lifetime.  The Department of Education announced its victory over the Coronavirus when it officially opened the school year this October 5.  Yet despite this feat, one question still remains: how ready are we for blended education? 

The Atom Araullo Specials followed four individuals in their journey to meet the demands of education during the “new normal”.  Atom meets Charlie, a 12-year-old student who collects crabs in their fish port in Navotas.  Charlie is saving his meager earnings in the hopes of buying a cellphone for his online class.  Atom then meets Pam, a single mother of 3 who has now become a national teacher broadcaster for the Department of Education.  She now juggles her new role as a teacher broadcaster and as a mother who needs to make sure that her children are coping with blended learning.   

Atom then goes to the mountains of Rizal to meet volunteers who help children with illiterate parents.  In the last leg of the documentary, Atom then goes to one of the most remote schools in General Nakar, Quezon.  For the students here who live without electricity, how will education be delivered to them?

In the Philippines where the educational system favors those who “have” over those who “have-not”, how will students from the marginalized sectors survive this school year?  Atom Araullo will explore these issues and more in ‘Batch 2020’.
