Healthy edible flower recipes


Flowers don’t just have decorative purposes. There are flowers such as gumamela, bulaklak ng kalabasa, and bulaklak ng malunggay that are welcome and colorful additions to our meals. Always giving you healthier and more colorful options, “Pinoy MD” came up with healthy recipes using edible flowers.

If you’re going to use edible flowers as ingredients, keep in mind to use flowers that were not exposed to fertilizer and pesticides.

Bulaklak ng kalabasa pasta
 
 
 


 
 
 


Ingredients:
¼ cup of oil
1 white onion
1 cucumber
1 cup of bulaklak ng kalabasa
Salt
Pepper
1 kilo of spaghetti noodles
1 cup of cheese

Directions:
1. Slice the white onion and cucumber.
2. Heat the oil on a frying pan and once heated, fry the sliced onion and cucumber until slightly brown.
3. Add the cup of bulaklak ng kalabasa then continue stirring.
4. Add a pinch of salt and pepper and continue stirring until cooked.
5. Boil the spaghetti noodles until al dente.
6. Toss the cooked spaghetti noodles with the fried bulaklak ng kalabasa mix and add the cup of cheese to serve.

Health benefits: The bulaklak ng kalabasa is rich in vitamin A which is good for our eyes. Vitamin A also serves as an antioxidant that can strengthen our immune system and help prevent cancer.

Ensaladang bulaklak ng malunggay




Ingredients:
Onion
Cucumber
4 tomatoes
Pepper
2 tbsps. of sugar
Salt
¼ cup of vinegar
1 cup of bulaklak ng malunggay
½ cup of ampalaya

Directions:
1. Slice all the vegetables and toss them together with the vinegar and pinch of salt and pepper.
2. Add the bulaklak ng malunggay and then the cup of ampalaya.

Health benefits: The bulaklak ng kalabasa is rich in antioxidants that can help prevent cancer.

Cost: P70 for 3-4 people

Gumamela tea



Ingredients:


8 glasses of water
1 cup of gumamela petals
½ cup of sugar
½ cup of calamansi juice

Directions:
1. Boil the water first and when it starts boiling add the petals, sugar, and calamansi juice.
2. Serve the tea with ice or serve it while hot.

Health benefits: Gumamela petals help improve the complexion of our skin and keep our hair smooth and shiny.
