Trivia N’ Bio: The one and only Richard Hwan

Chinito. Charming. Good boy looks. With all these characteristics, you get a heartthrob. No wonder he became a trending topic over Twitter when he first appeared on national TV in “Eat Bulaga.” He is “You’re My Foreignoy” Dabarkads’ Choice, Richard Hwan.

Let us get to know more about him through “Tunay na Buhay’s” Trivia N’ Bio!

Richard grew up in Hong Kong. He is the eldest of two kids. While growing up, he admitted that he was very shy. Who would think that this chick magnet was a self-confessed ‘torpe’ before?

“In class, I would be so quiet, I wouldn’t be talking to [my] other classmates, especially with girls. Sobrang hiya ako talaga, like super-duper shy,” Richard said.

After finishing high school, Richard went to the Philippines to enroll at UP Diliman. This was his personal choice. He learned about UP because his father was an alumnus of the university. He initially took up Hotel and Restaurant Management in 2010 but eventually shifted to Broadcast Communications.

Richard already did modeling stints before, but it was when he auditioned in “Eat Bulaga’s” “You’re My Foreignoy” that he got his big break.

Living in the Philippines

Richard has been living in the Philippines for almost four years. He now understands and speaks basic Filipino. He even eats a lot of Pinoy street food with turon and balut as his favorites.

“I love balut! Pusong Pinoy [kasi ako], kaya siguro gusto ko ng balut. ‘Pag inisip mo medyo scary pero wala, [ang] sarap e,” Richard said.

A Hunk in the Making

Recently, Richard was selected as one of the hottest bachelors of a men’s magazine for 2014! Is he ready to show more skin?

“I’ve been doing more sexy shoots also, I guess it’s something that I have to go through. [But] sorry to all my fans out there, but I will never do underwear. For me parang topless, that’s the most I can do.  Probably, I wouldn’t do parang ‘yung underwear boxer, maybe shorts [puwede],” Richard says.

Good news ladies! Richard is still single and available! The question is, does he want to be in a relationship anytime soon?

“I don’t know, like I said I don’t mind knowing you girls, but then I don’t wanna get into [a] relationship again kasi parang mamaya ‘yung work [maapektuhan] na naman ‘yung lovelife ko,” he explains.

What’s next for Richard?

Richard is not that active in “Eat Bulaga” anymore as he got his hands full with various TV guestings and school. As a matter of fact, he will be graduating soon!

But will he still pursue his showbiz career?

“Kung may offer, tatanggapin ko ‘yan pero kung walang offer, there’s always a fallback plan to go back to do business or actually work in media with my broadcomm degree,” Richard said.

Richard risked living comfortably in Hong Kong to discover himself and his talents in a foreign country. Who would think this decision would bring him to stardom? For this foreignoy, life truly started after stepping outside one’s comfort zone.
