The Baddest Birds in the Universe: Angry Birds Space Profiles

It's a mad, mad start for the latest instalment of the Angry Birds franchise, Angry Birds Space. The game was reportedly the most downloaded app in the Apple App Store within hours of its launch on March 22, 2012 and it is also currently featured as the App Store's Game of the Week. The popularity of the original game definitely was a good springboard for the sequel, which  plays pretty much like the original puzzle-strategy game that you've spent hours of your life on, but a with few new extra environmental dynamics to keep things fresh. While the game's new mechanics will definitely excite the fans, it is still ultimately the Birds, the guys that you launch out of your slingshot, and knowing how to use them that will define the way you will enjoy the game (if you enjoy winning, that is). This astronomical avian arsenal only has a slight variance from the birds of yore, the new look notwithstanding. But it's a welcome difference that will be useful in their war against the pigs in the new battlefield in outer space. The Red Bird Angry Birds will never be the same without the classic “training ammunition”, the Red Bird. He's still pretty much the same, aside from his brand spanking new Uber Mask that allows him to see the optimum trajectory of his shot, represented by a dotted path (a new feature that all of the birds actually have). He breaks easily through ice and wood, but has some trouble conquering concrete. As usual, he's usable in most levels of the game, especially the first ones. The Blues One hit game and a sequel (and all the other adventures in between) later, these three high-flyers are still together and still flying in formation. They still retain their power to expertly break through ice with their triplicate ability, which has now become more useful thanks to a new ally (more on him later). Just don't throw them against wood or rocks. They're not really built to hit those. The Lazer Bird This guy is like the Back-to-the-Future version of the classic Yellow Bird. And being that, he does have one upgrade over his predecessor: pin-point lazer-guided rush. Instead of just gaining speed at the tap of the screen, he zips straight to wherever you want him to go. Lazer Bird was one of the first birds to be seen in action prior to the game's release. But what the gameplay video didn't show is that he can actually go backwards (as seen on screenshot below). Unfortunately, this rendered the Boomerang Bird obsolete.

Sorry, Boomie, looks like the Shuttle was not big enough for all of you. You can blame Terence. Terence In previous games, Terence was known as the Big Brother Bird, a bigger and stronger version of the Red Bird. In the sequel, it looks like Terence really wants to come out from the shadows of his more-popular little brother and is now sporting a green color that makes him resemble the Incredible Hulk. Terence's mass is a big advantage in the Space environment because things like gravity are minimal, therefore he's free to just run-over anything that's in his path, which doesn't really get deviated by trivial annoyances such as space debris. The Bomb Another fan-favorite returns! Still causing the wanton mayhem and destruction that has made him so famous worldwide. The Space environment also did wonders for The Bomb. Lesser friction means that everything that ricochets from his explosions will shoot straight out until an object, or other external forces stops it dead on its path. The Ice Bird The newest bird on the flock is also, figuratively and literally, the coolest. The Ice Bird doesn't have the ability to destroy pigs on impact. But what he lacks in strength, he makes up for in support utility. He freezes all surrounding structures upon impact, turning everything his explosion hits into brittle, fragile ice. He's definitely the newest best friend of the Blues because they really love nothing more than to crash through layers of glacial glass. Having him around could hint that you're not going to be able to go for a one-shot finish. But at least the levels that have him on don't necessarily require that to get a three-star rating.  - AMD, GMA News
