Why do poodles come in different sizes? Kuya Kim explains
Some of us may think that poodles are small, furry creatures, but these dogs in fact come in three sizes: miniature, toy, and standard.
As explained by Kuya Kim on “24 Oras” Thursday, dogs’ sizes are determined by a genetic material called regulatory sequence.
Small dogs have one or more mutations in their regulatory sequence, while medium and large dogs have none.
Giant poodles, which are considered standard-sized, can be as tall as 25-27 inches and weigh up to 40 kg.
Meanwhile, dermatologists and giant poodle owners Dr. Aivee and Z Teo said they noticed that their huge fur babies were not as sickly as other dog breeds.
“When it’s a bit cooler, they’re OK,” said Dr. Z. – RC, GMA News
