Magnitude 4.9 quake jolts Kiamba, Sarangani


A magnitude 4.9 earthquake hits off the coast of southeast Kiamba, Sarangani early Wednesday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.

The quake, which was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 3 kilometers, was initially reported to have a magnitude of 5.0. It occurred at 1:03 a.m. and was felt in the following areas:

Intensity IV - T'Boli, South Cotabato
Intensity III - Maitum, and Malapatan, Sarangani; Tupi, South Cotabato
Intensity II - Lake Sebu, and Tampakan, South Cotabato; General Santos City
Intensity I - Maasim, Sarangani

PHIVOLCS also reported that no damages are expected but aftershocks may occur. -- BAP/KBK, GMA Integrated News
