DOST, groups team up to support Filipino textile researchers

The Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) has signed an agreement with the Philippine-American Academy of Science and Engineering (PAASE) and its local foundation to support Filipino researchers in conducting and publishing studies on textiles.

The memorandum of agreement (MOA) was signed during the first Global Textile Congress and the 2026 Philippine Textile Congress at the University of the Philippines Diliman in Quezon City on Monday.

Under the agreement, PAASE and PAASE Foundation Philippines Inc. (PFFPI) will help researchers document and publish their work through a special issue featuring studies presented at the congress.

“We are signing the MOA between PAASE, PFFPI, and DOST-PTRI regarding the publication of a special issue in SciEnggJ, which is the official journal of PAASE, the Philippine-American Academy of Science and Engineering,” said academician Gisela Concepcion, who represented PAASE and PFFPI during the MOA signing.

The partnership also aims to strengthen collaboration among the government, academe, and the scientific community in promoting research, innovation, and technology development in the country’s textile industry.

The Global Textile Congress and the 2026 Philippine Textile Congress run from August 24 to October 30.

The DOST-Philippine Textile Research Institute holds the first Global Textile Congress and the 2026 Philipline Textile Congress at the University of the Philippines Diliman.

With the theme “Stitching Our Shared Textile Futures,” the congress provides a platform for stakeholders to exchange and share knowledge through a series of colloquia, assemblies, innovation dialogues, and plenary sessions.

It also aims to deepen appreciation for textile innovation beyond clothing, including its applications in healthcare, environmental sustainability, advanced manufacturing, cultural preservation, and community development.— MCG, GMA News
