St. Jude studes top Manila math tilt


Students from St. Jude Catholic School in Manila topped the MTG-SM-SHARP Math Trail and Problem Solving Competition finals held recently at the SM City North EDSA in Quezon City.
 
Dr. Simon Chua, contest chief organizer and president of the Mathematics Trainers Guild-Philippines (MTG), said the team beat counterparts from 17 other schools to bring home P12,000 and gold medals.
 
Members of the top team include Adrian Reginald Sy, Ma. Czarina Angela Lao, Mikaela Angelina Uy and Audrey Celine Lao.
 
Chua noted 43 schools from Metro Manila participated in the elimination round.
 
Winning the second place was the team from Makati Science High School composed of Raymond Joseph Fadri, Angel Aranas, Anjanette Canales and Hovve Teves.
 
It won P10,000, and silver medals.
 
Taking third place was the Philippine Science High School team composed of Gerald Pascua, Janina Erica Damian, Michael Brodeth and Miguel Sebastian Santos, who won P8,000 and bronze medals.
 
Winning fourth place is the team from Grace Christian College composed of Kelsey Lim Tiong Soon, Kaye Janelle Yao, Deany Hendrick Cheng and Sean Timothy Cheng, which brought home P6,000 and other prizes.
 
Fifth place went to Philippine Institute of Quezon City composed of Janine Michelle Yu, Joanna Nicole Yu, Karli Ang and Charlton Paul Dy, which brought home P4,000.
