Pinoys had already enjoyed front row seats to a once (or twice) in a lifetime event this year: the Transit of Venus on June 6, 2012.
But Filipino astronomer Frederick Gabriana compiled his own list of astronomical events that Filipinos will most enjoy for 2013.
Gabriana is a mathematician by education, but teaches positional astronomy (the science of calculating distances of objects in the sky) at Rizal Technological University.
His top ten list includes meteor showers, eclipses, a rare planetary grouping, and an opportunity to witness a comet streaking across the sky.
Gabriana also said, during a press briefing in Quezon City on Saturday, that astronomy is one of the best ways to keep children hooked on science. This Prezi presents Gabriana's Top Ten list of coolest astronomical events for the coming year. --KDM, GMA News
