Another wearable tech from Google is in the works, though this one is mainly for people suffering from diabetes.

Google X is working on a smart contact lens that can measure glucose levels for diabetics, tech site The Verge reported.

"Google's hoping that it'll be a less painful and invasive way to monitor glucose levels than the typical method of pricking a finger and testing blood droplets multiple times a day," The Verge reported.

However, the report said it is still not clear when the lens would be manufactured.

"(But) it's good to see Google using its engineering prowess to try and solve a long-standing medical problem," it added.

The report said the lens contains a miniaturized wireless chip and glucose monitor to measure glucose levels in the wearer's tears.

Under ideal conditions, the sensor would produce a reading once per second, and warn the user if glucose levels begin to fall.

According to The Verge, Google may install a tiny LED in the lens to indicate levels going down.

For now, Google is still working with the Food and Drug Administration and looking for partners who can market the product.

Google also wants partners to develop apps that can help users understand the measurements. — TJD, GMA News
