It cannot be stressed enough: An earthquake may happen near Metro Manila within our lifetimes. But since predicting when exactly one will happen is impossible, preparation is still our best chance of survival.

IMReady has come out with a video with essential information on earthquakes and how to prepare for them, especially for the one that may happen in areas surrounding the West Valley Fault:

Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology Director Renato Solidum Jr said last year that the West Valley Fault that runs from Sierra Madre to Laguna may move "within our generation or the  next" and cause a 7.2-magnitude earthquake in Metro Manila.

Unfortunately, there is no way to predict when exactly an earthquake will happen. An IMReady video explains why earthquakes cannot be predicted.

"Puwedeng ihalintulad sa pagbatid ng hinihilang rubber band ang lindol. Kung kailan at kung anong parte ng rubber band ang mababatid ay mahirap malaman," IMReady Service Group Chief Carlos Primo "CP" David said in the video.

In October 2013, a 7.2-magnitude earthquake shook Bohol, changing the face of some surrounding areas. More than three million people were affected by the quake. –  Kim Luces/JDS, GMA News
