During a visit to Guiuan, Eastern Samar, CSAFP General Gregorio Catapang, Jr. said that every citizen and soldier should be prepared to confront “World War III”—the fight against climate change.

“Climate change and the natural disasters that they bring are our new fiercest enemies. We must all be united to face them,” Gen. Catapang said.

Gen. Catapang was in Guiuan for the handover of motorized fishing boats to the survivors. The project—dubbed “Bangka ng Buhay, Bunga ng Bayanihan”—is a P3.0 million project funded by Metrobank Foundation, Inc. and implemented by AFP’s 8th Infantry Division, CRSAFP, and TOPSOLDIERS.

A total of 150 boats were turned over to the towns of Guiuan, Lawaan, and Balangiga.

“This is a perfect example of private-public enterprise that must be emulated,” said Guiuan Mayor Sheen Gonzales. “Thank you very much for helping us get back on our feet again.” — Bea Montenegro/TJD, GMA News
