Phivolcs said the quake was tectonic in origin, had a "depth of focus" of 100 kilometers, and no damage is expected to result from it, but aftershocks could follow.

The earthquake was felt at Intensity V in Looc, Abra de Ilog and Paluan in Occidental Mindoro; and in Batangas City

It was also felt at Intensity IV Muntinlupa, Pasay, Tagaytay, Mandaluyong, Makati, Parañaque and Calamba City; Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro, as well as San Pedro and Canlubang Laguna; Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro; General Trias and Bacoor Cavite.

The USGS said the Monday evening quake's the epicenter was in Balitoc, Calatagan in Batangas, which is to the northeast of Looc, as can be seen in the map below. USGS recorded the quake at magnitude 5.8.
