NATIONAL TIME CONSCIOUSNESS WEEK

DOST encourages public to sync clocks to Philippine Standard Time

There's a running theory that we'd all be on time if traffic in Metro Manila weren't so bad, but while concerned government agencies are trying to solve that problem, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) wants the public to at least be synchronized.

The DOST is once again leading the observance of the National Time Consciousness Week (NTCW), which starts on January 4th and ends on the 8th.

NTCW was initiated last year and in the spirit of the campaign to instill more discipline, the public is enjoined to synchronize their watches with the official Philippine Standard Time (PhST).

PhST is provided by the PAG-ASA and via Republic Act 10535 or The Philippine Standard Time Act of 2013, local government offices as well as broadcasting companies are required to follow "Juan Time."

The NTWC seeks to promote a culture of punctuality...but it also makes you very aware of the many minutes you spend in line or immobile on the road. —Aya Tantiangco/JST, GMA News
