The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) is urging the public to plant bamboo trees in their yards to help counter the effects of climate change.

The DENR's Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau claims that bamboo can help clean the air and stave off soil erosion—particularly on riverbanks.

Bamboo, touted as one of the largest and fastest-growing grasses in the world, is a vigorous plant that produces extensive root systems, making it difficult to kill off. — GMA News
