200-kilo sea turtle to be freed in Quezon

Fishermen in Barangay Laurel, Tagkawayan, Quezon, struggled with their nets after accidentally capturing a 200-kilo Olive Ridley Sea Turtle (Lepidochelys olivacea) early Tuesday, February 3.

The turtle was taken aboard and immediately turned over to authorities, according to a report on GMA News' Unang Balita.

Veterinarians looked it over and cleaned it free of parasites. It is set to be released back into the deep ocean Wednesday, with authorities expressing relief that it was not intercepted by poachers. — TJ Dimacali, GMA News
