GMA News Online SciTech editor among Asia Journalism Fellows for 2016
The Science and Technology editor of GMA News Online was named one of 13 Asian Journalism Fellows for 2016.
Timothy James Dimacali is the Philippines' representative for the annual fellowship for Asian journalists founded by non-profit Temasek Foundation in 2008.
Dimacali became the editor of the SciTech section in 2010 after serving a year as the site's online community manager.
"I'm very excited for the opportunity to expand the horizons of science communications in the Philippines, particularly with regard to weather," he said.
"I hope to help establish baseline practices for weather reporting and disaster response," Dimacali added.
Dimacali was one of the experts the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) consulted in writing its Filipino-language dictionary of technical weather terms, "Patnubay sa Weder Forkasting."
He is also the president of Philippine CyberPress and a published science fiction writer.
The AJF is an initiative of Temasek Foundation and Nanyang Technological University in Singapore to bring journalists from across Asia to pursue their interests under a semi-structured program for three months.
Fellows are provided "access to key newsmakers in Singapore’s public sector, business community and civil society" in order to sharpen their "professional skills and deepen understanding of trends in media and communication." —JST, GMA News
