Howie Severino, Atom Araullo awarded for reports on climate change
Kapuso journalist and industry stalwart Howie Severino was honored by the Climate Reality Project Philippines with the 2018 Luntiang Aligato Award at an event on Monday.
This award is bestowed on media practitioners who work to draw attention and help find solutions to the climate crisis.
"I'm accepting this award on behalf of the very talented people who work with me on my documentaries, including 'Climate Justice,' the documentary that took us from Paris to Leyte," Severino said in his acceptance speech.
"I also want to honor the many ordinary people who opened up their lives to us and shared their stories about how climate change affected their lives."
Fellow Kapuso journalist Atom Araullo also received a nod from the organization for his contributions to the cause. While he could not personally be at the event to receive the award, Araullo left a video message saying that climate change was an existential threat. He also said that many of the stories he had done in the past decade as a journalist, whether on politics, conflict, or the environment, could be linked to the major problem of climate change. — Aya Tantiangco/BM, GMA News
