Experts maintain advise on physical distancing, strong immune system vs. COVID-19
The World Health Organization (WHO) has repeatedly explained that the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) can be transmitted directly through the infected person or indirect contact in the immediate environment or object used by an infected person.
Some studies have found that SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, can also be spread through aerosol transmission, which means that the virus hangs in the air for around 30 minutes before it falls onto a surface.
"Usually, the respirator droplets can be transmitted up to about one meter away. Now, maganda na tinaasan nila or hinabaan nila ang distansya, ginawang six feet.," said Dr. Gil Penuliar, a microbiologist.
He explained that by increasing the minimum distance of physical distancing, the risk of getting infected is lower.
Acting WHO Philippine representative Dr. Tauhid Islam explains how the virus is transmitted from person-to-person.
“Transmission of COVID-19 virus can occur either by direct contact with infected people and indirect contact with [a] surface in the immediate environment or with the object used by the infected person,” he said.
The Southeast Asia Tobacco Control Alliance issued a warning to vape users.
Alliance Director Dr. Ulysses Dorotheo explained the COVID-19 virus can survive in aerosol for several hours.
"Sa panahon ng COVID, ang importante is ma-promote yung ating resistensya, yung ating immunity," he added. -- Julia Mari Ornedo/BAP, GMA News
