Magnitude 5.4 quake hits off Mindoro, felt in Metro Manila


 

A magnitude 5.4 earthquake hit off Mindoro at 3:18 a.m. Sunday morning, with the tremor felt in parts of Metro Manila.

The epicenter of the quake was at 20 kilometers northeast of Lubang, Occidental Mindoro.

 

 

The quake, which is tectonic in origin, had a depth of 76 kilometers.

"It’s a moderate-strength earthquake event. This earthquake event is not strong enough to cause stress transfer or trigger of movement of other faults,” said Dr. Renato Solidum Jr., officer-in-charge of Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

GMA News' Jonathan Andal reported that Intensity IV was felt in Bulacan based on the earthquake intensity meter located outside the Bulacan Province Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office in Malolos.

Intensity IV meanwhile was felt in Makati City, City of Manila and Parañaque City.

Intensity III on the other hand was felt in Malabon City; Mandaluyong City; Pasay City; Pateros; Quezon City; Taguig City; Tagaytay City, Cavite; Calapan City and Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro; Calataga and Lipa City, Batangas.

PHIVOLCS said there is no expected damage but aftershocks are expected. –BAP/JST/KG, GMA News
