Mayon Volcano crater still red, PHIVOLCS monitoring —Solidum

Mayon Volcano in Albay still shows signs of unrest and its crater is red, Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology Officer-in-Charge Undersecretary Renato Solidum said on Monday.

"Patuloy ang kanyang pamamaga at pamumula ng crater," he said in an interview on GMA News' Unang Balita.

"Hindi pa masyadong matingkad pero senyales na may mainit na source o magma o gas sa tuktok," Soldium said.

PHIVOLCS continues to monitor the volcano for further activity such as increase in rockfall events, he added.

"Binabantayan kung dadami ang bilang ng rockfall events. Ibig sabihin noon, ang magma umuusad pataas at inuusog ang pinakamataas nito," Solidum said.

Mayon Volcano is still under Alert Level 2.

"Bawal pumasok sa six-kilometer permanent danger zone," Solidum said.

Taal Volcano

As for Taal Volcano, Solidum said there were no unusual activity monitored.

"Wala tayong ibang kakaibang nakikita. May pagbaba lang ng abo sa mga baybayin ng Agoncillo at Laurel (sa Batangas)," he added.

Taal Volcano is under Alert Level 1.

PHIVOLCS is also currently monitoring Kanlaon Volcano in Negros after a series of earthquakes occurred since Sunday.
