Level up to save lives

We have a valuable weapon in the pandemic that can help save lives, and its simple to do. To keep from getting diseases and helping prevent their spread, wash your hands properly. Ultimately, you’re helping save lives. Now more than ever, it is important to level up awareness on washing your hands more frequently and thoroughly. Let’s keep reminding everyone to #LevelUpHandwash!

Be a good Influence-r

The call to #LevelUpHandwash started in March of 2020 to raise awareness as well as reinforce the important safety measure of handwashing for at least 20 seconds as a primary defense against COVID-19.

Actor Kimpoy Feliciano, video creator Kilimanguru, and other digital influencers like Agassi Ching, Mark Reyes, and Riva Quenery along with brand ambassador Enrique gil were called upon by Pinoy soap brand Bioderm and to show the world how to #LevelUpHandwash through their creative takes on social media. As the advocacy picked up steam online, global partners, distributors, and individuals here and abroad pledged their commitment to proper 20-second handwashing procedures. The online advocacy drive, through Bioderm, has made it possible for the message for proper handwashing to resonate all over the globe.

Create good habits early

It’s important to turn handwashing into a habit in everyone while they are still young, showing the proper procedure of washing even the tops of hands and wrists, which many might neglect doing.

To help educate students on proper handwashing, Bioderm gave out hygiene kits to more than 30 public and private elementary schools in key cities nationwide. These hygiene kits contained Bioderm soap for both the teachers and students so that they could practice proper handwashing at home with their families. With the help of the parents, teachers discussed and demonstrated the steps of proper handwashing using Bioderm to ensure this life-saving habit is practiced at home.

Support for communities and frontliners

The simple effort of handwashing not only protects us but the people and the community around us.

Even before the lockdown, Bioderm has been answering the communities’ call for protection with the distribution of free Bioderm soaps to local and international travelers in major airports, bus terminals, seaports, and public markets nationwide. Thousands of Bioderm soaps were donated to select government agencies, LGUS, and non-profit organizations like Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines, Inc., Philippine Society of Medical Laboratory Scientists (PSMLS), Philippine Nurses Association (PNA).

Aside from the vulnerable sectors of the community, Bioderm provided germicidal soaps to hospitals and other frontline venues and organizations. Together with IPI, a non-stop commitment was made to advocate handwashing and the use of alcohol to disinfect as part of primary safety measures.

During the month-long lockdowns, in partnership with IPI Foundation, LGUs and the Philippine Red Cross, handwashing facilities with informative posters and signs and free Bioderm soaps were also deployed in high-traffic areas to remind commuters about the importance of handwashing.

The need for global efforts

Every 15th of October, the world celebrates Global Handwashing Day to increase awareness on the effective and also simple way of preventing diseases and saving lives:  handwashing with soap at home, in schools, and in communities. Bioderm, has been an advocate of proper hand hygiene since 2008 and joins the celebration each year to drive awareness as much as they can.

In 2020, they again joined forces with the Philippine Red Cross local chapters, LGUs, and non-profit organizations to continue educating communities and schools. Information dissemination and demos on proper handwashing, distribution of hygiene kits, and installation of handwashing facilities are a few of these continuous efforts but each one of us should commit to be one step further towards our common goal—HAND HYGIENE FOR ALL. Whoever you are, whatever you do, and wherever you may be, practicing proper hand hygiene IS A MUST. Observe HAND HYGIENE not only during Global Handwashing Day but every day.
