VCO trials show big drop in virus count of mild COVID-19 cases

Community trials of virgin coconut oil (VCO) as adjunct treatment for mild COVID-19 cases have shown a significant reduction of coronavirus count among patients enrolled for the study.

In an interview on Super Radyo dzBB, Department of Science and Technology Undersecretary (DOST) Rowena Guevarra said the trials at a facility in Sta. Rosa, Laguna show that VCO cuts by 60 to 90 percent the virus count in mild cases.

"Nakita na napababa ang amount ng virus ng 60 hanggang 90% sa mild cases, and this is consistent with the community trials natin," Guevarra said.

According to her, the trials were replicated in communities in the cities of Valenzuela and Mandaluyong.

"Nakita natin sa community trials na umiikli ng about five days yung paggaling ng mga pasyente" (We observed that patients' recovery time was cut by about five days), she said.

As with the clinical trial, which is done by the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) on mild and severe cases, the results are still being analyzed and by the end of October or early November, we will be able to report to the public the results of the trial.

In the dzBB interview, Guevarra also bared initial findings on the trials of Lagundi and Tawa-Tawa herbs as possible adjunct treatment for COVID-19. —LBG, GMA News.
