Two quakes hit Davao Occidental —PHIVOLCS
The waters of the municipality of Jose Abad Santos in Davao Occidental were rocked by two earthquakes measuring more than magnitude 5 before dawn on Monday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.
The first was recorded at 2:29 a.m. and was initially measured as a magnitude 5.7 quake. It was later downgraded to a 5.2.
Its epicenter was located at 05.74°N, 126.67°E - 109 km S 81° E of Jose Abad Santos.
The tectonic quake had a depth of 120 kilometers.
Intensity III was felt in Tupi, South Cotabato, while Intensity II was experienced in General Santos City and Davao City.
PHIVOLCS said no damage is expected but aftershocks may occur.
The second earthquake was a magnitude 5.2 that occurred at 5:13 a.m.
Its epicenter was at 05.78°N, 126.67°E - 115 km S 82° E of Jose Abad Santos.
The tectonic quake had a depth of 69 kilometers.
PHIVOLCS said no damage and aftershocks are expected. —KG/BM, GMA News
