Five volcanic quakes recorded in Bulusan Volcano; Alert Level 1 still in effect
Bulusan Volcano in Sorsogon had five volcanic earthquakes in the past 24 hours, according to a bulletin on Saturday issued by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
This was an increase over the one quake reported Friday for the 24-hour period covering June 16-17.
The volcano also emitted 865 tonnes on Friday.
Plumes rising up to 200 meters high were observed. These drifted west-southwest, PHIVOLCS said.
The volcano's edifice remains inflated, it added.
Alert Level 1 remains in effect on Saturday, PHIVOLCS said. This means the volcano is in low-level unrest, but sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions are possible.
The agency again reiterated that entry into the four-km radius permanent danger zone (PDZ) and entry without vigilance into the two-km extended danger zone (EDZ) are prohibited.
Likewise, flying aircraft close to Bulusan Volcano is not allowed, PHIVOLCS said.
On June 12, Bulusan Volcano in Sorsogon had another phreatic eruption which lasted for 18 minutes. This recent eruption occurred a week after the Bulusan Volcano's phreatic eruption on June 5 at 10:37 a.m. —KG, GMA News
