Magnitude 5.1 earthquake strikes offshore Antique


A magnitude 5.1 earthquake was recorded offshore Antique on Saturday afternoon, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

The tectonic quake occurred at 12:25 p.m. and had a depth of 6 kilometers.

Its epicenter was located at 10.28°N, 121.83°E - 020 km S 32° W of the municipality of Anini-y. 

PHIVOLCS said the quake was felt in the following areas:

  • Intensity IV - Anini-y, Tobias Fornier, and San Jose de Buenavista, Antique;
  • Intensity III - Belison, and Sibalom, Antique; Iloilo City; and
  • Intensity II - Bugasong, Barbaza, and Patnongon, Antique.

 

No damage is expected but aftershocks may occur, PHIVOLCS added. —KG, GMA News
