Magnitude 5.9 quake hits Sarangani


A magnitude 5.9 earthquake hit east off Balut Island in Sarangani, Davao Occidental late Tuesday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.

The quake, which was downgraded from magnitude 6, occurred at 10:13 a.m. and had a depth of 27 kilometers and is tectonic in origin, the agency said.

PHIVOLCS said no damage and aftershocks were expected.

Earlier in the day, a 5.2-magnitude earthquake hit southeast off the same island—KBK, GMA Integrated News
