Two new species of hedgehogs have been discovered in Mindanao.
According to Kuya Kim’s report on “24 Oras” Tuesday, the podogymnura intermedia can only be found at Mt. Hamiguitan in Davao Oriental and at Mt. Kampalili in Davao de Oro.
The podogymnura minima, meanwhile, was discovered at Mt. Kitanglad in Bukidnon.
“They are hedgehogs, but they don’t have spines. They have soft fur and they’re 10 to 12 centimeters long when they’re stretched out, kinda short tail,” Dr. Lawrence Heaney said.
"They're not rodents. They're very distantly related to rodents," he added.
According to Kuya Kim, most hedgehogs have spikes called quills that they use to defend themselves when they are threatened. —NB, GMA News
