Magnitude 4.7 quake hits Masinloc, Zambales; felt in parts of NCR


A magnitude 4.7 earthquake jolted Masinloc, Zambales on Thursday noon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.

The earthquake, which was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 023 kilometers, occurred at 12:21 p.m.

It was recorded at 15.61°N, 120.07°E - 014 km N 55° east of Masinloc, Zambales and was felt in some parts of Metro Manila.

PHIVOLCS said intensities were recorded in the following areas:

  • Intensity IV - Botolan, Cabangan, Candelaria, Masinloc, Palauig, San Felipe, Santa Cruz, and Subic, ZAMBALES; CITY OF OLONGAPO; City of Alaminos, Bautista, Binalonan, Lingayen, and Mangatarem, PANGASINAN City of San Fernando, PAMPANGA; San Clemente, TARLAC
  • Intensity III - CITY OF MANDALUYONG; QUEZON CITY; CITY OF TAGUIG; Agno, Aguilar, Dasol, Infanta, and Villasis, PANGASINAN; Abucay, Morong, and Orani, BATAAN; Cabiao, Guimba, and San Jose City, NUEVA ECIJA; Candaba, Mabalacat City, and Porac, PAMPANGA; Camiling, Capas, Concepcion, Gerona, Mayantoc, San Jose, and City of Tarlac, TARLAC; Iba, San Antonio, San Marcelino, and San Narciso, ZAMBALES; San Mateo, RIZAL

PHIVOLCS said damage are expected due to the earthquake, but no aftershocks are anticipated.

In a Super Radyo dzBB interview, Masinloc Mayor Arsenia Lim said the situation in their town is normal after the earthquake.

“Dito sa Masinloc, okay naman po kasi kasalukuyang ginaganap ang town fiesta basketball league namin dito sa gym. Naramdaman namin kanina medyo nayanig po pero okay naman ang sitwasyon sa ngayon,” she said.

(It’s okay here in Masinloc. We were having our town fiesta basketball league here at a gym and we felt the ground shaking earlier but the situation is okay now.)

Lim said the Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Office (DRRMO) is currently monitoring the situation, but has not yet received reports of any damage.

“Ang instruction po ay kailangan contact-in lahat ng barangay officials para mag-check sa kani-kanilang barangay,” she said.
