No tsunami threat to PH after Papua New Guinea quake

There is no threat of tsunami in the country following a huge earthquake in Papua New Guinea on Monday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.

"No destructive tsunami threat exists based on available data. This is for information purposes only and there is no tsunami threat to the Philippines from this earthquake," it said in a bulletin

A huge earthquake occurred in New Guinea, Papua New Guinea early on Monday, measuring magnitude 7.2 according to the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre. It had a depth of 80 kilometers, it added. 

PHIVOLCS reported the said earthquake that occurred at 2:04 a.m. as having magnitude 7.3 and with a depth of 74 kilometers. —KG, GMA Integrated News
